Sarah ProjanskySarah Projansky is Associate Dean for Faculty and Academic Affairs in the College of Fine Arts. She holds a joint-appointment as Professor in the Film & Media Arts Department and the Gender Studies Program. Prior to coming to the University of Utah, she was the Associate Head of the Department of Media and Cinema Studies at the University of Illinois, where she was also a member of the Academic Senate Executive Committee. She recently finished her term as the Co-Chair of the Women's Caucus of the Society for Cinema and Media Studies, and she has served as Chair of the Critical and Cultural Studies Division of the National Communication Association. She is currently a member of the editorial boards of Cinema Journal, Women's Studies in Communication, the Journal of Sports and Social Issues, and Communication and Critical/Cultural Studies. Sarah is author of Spectacular Girls: Media Fascination and Celebrity Culture (2013, NYU Press) and the award-winning Watching Rape: Film and Television in Postfeminist Culture (2001, NYU Press), as well as co-editor of Enterprise Zones: Critical Positions on Star Trek (2006, Westview Press). She has published articles on gender, race, and sexuality in film, television, and U.S. popular culture and convergence media in Cinema Journal, Velvet Light Trap, Signs, and various anthologies. Sarah's courses include Film Theory, Introduction to TV, Gender and Contemporary Issues, Girl Films, Film and Television Stars, and Feminist Girls' Media Studies. She has been a member of numerous dissertation committees and has directed many undergraduate honors theses. |
